Update:
Got the hopper off to have bit of a spring clean. I'm toying with the idea of electrolis or something along these lines.

Cheers, Will

Hi all,
cleaned the bottom out of all the crap and gunk put a dash of diesel through the spark plug hole.
but have got a problem with the maggie, its got a weak spark but might need to get some pint files to clean up the connections.
Its got good compression and the rings are fee and doing what there supposed to be doing.

Next thing is to start on the transport!

Cheers, Will

Give the points a good clean and set the gap to about 12 thou. or as my manual states "the thickness of two Gillette Blue Super razor blades" . Pour a little petrol in the plug hole and put the plug back in. Give the crank some good whirling. It should fire with a bit of luck. The smirk or grin is had to get rid of for a while. Savor the moment and pat yourself on the back and celebrate.........best of luck......Phil

Gday Will. Am curious as to which type of maggie you have? I know of two types of Lucas maggies that the Ronnie "N's" had. The RS1 and the SR1. Which one is yours? What is the "metal part bent over heaps"? I've got one sitting on our dining table at the moment. Looks a bit like a small loaf of bread with a round disc cover on one end that covers the points!..............Cheers Phil

Will

There are a couple of R&T N type mufflers on eBay at the moment.
One is an original with 1 1/4" thread, the other is new with 1" thread.
l think the new one is more likely to suit your engine.

Does any one know if the R&T mufflers were made in that cannister shape with 1 1/4" threads and what size engine did they go on?

Photo showing hopper just been taken off

spark plug taken out oil is slowly drainin out, so i chucked 1/2 a jam jar of diesel down to get everything freed with the rings.

Cover plate off to have a look to see what it was like inside.

the bore, looking up from underneath

Will

there is a Ronny N piston & conrod on eBay
might suit your engine, check the manual for part numbers
the smaller engines shared a lot of parts

Hey Will, Is it just me or does your Ronny and my Sunbeam/Cooper look like they are, well nearly the same bar some minor differences like the bore casting, flywheels and fuel tank??????

Andrew, as far as I know, there are few interchangeable parts between the R-T N and the Cooper/Sunbeam X. I don't think I would agree about minor differences. The only part that is N looking is the crankcase and crankshaft, everything else is different. Although I have not checked this, I would think these engines came from the RB&T factory, unlike other Cooper models.

P.S: Being at the tender age of 23,recalling engine makes from back in the day isn't something i have at my disposal
