Default Pitman for Case Grain Binder

I am looking for a pitman arm for a Case grain binder. I also have a #7 IHC mower and a case T-10 sickle mower that I am going to need pitmans for. Are there any sites that sell wood pitmans?

I've made new pitman arms for a few different mowers and binders by just taking a square piece of vertical grained spruce, or hardwood and turning the center to round like the old one was. I've always used the old one as a pattern. It's not too big of a job, especially if you find someone local that has a nice long bed wood lathe.

If you don't have the old one for a pattern, I can take measurements from one of mine for you. One of mine has a home made one that was made from a crooked piece of locucust.

Thanks guys. I've made one in the past (maybe 10 years ago) but don't have an original to go by now. I was without a tractor until about 2 weeks ago and am now ready to cut again. I know what you mean; measure the length at the end of the eccentric, or end stroke;aligning the cutting bar to the ledgers. I'll need to watch the size of the fit into each end of the pitmans joining to the cutting mechanism.

I used to break them all the time on my T-10, but since have learned that I probably had my rpm's too high.

I have a Web site at http://www.webvironments.com/photos.html

That ought to fix you right up. They both stock good 'stuff'.

Mike,

I had emailed Macknair about the canvases. He didn't stock any for Case and sent me an address for an Amish guy in Ohio. These are two good sources. I'll probably try making my own first, but was looking for any and all sources for my old equipment. I guess Macnair and Balsters are the only ones out there other than the plain folk. Thanks again for the info.

Does anyone know the color scheme for a Case power binder? I would like to see a restored one, or a color photo.

I may get corrected here, but I think the sheet metal is "Euclid Green", with the wheels about the same color as the Minneapolis Prarie Gold, and the frame work was red.
Anyway, that was about what I found on both the ones I have [what lil paint I found that is]. I need canvas for my 7 ft Case binder too. I have the original "Case-Osborne" canvas for the 6 ft'er, along with the original tongue, & trucks for used as horse drawn.

I have two sources for Canvases. I live in the middle of a Mennonite community just moving in from Penn. Tim Weaver gave me the phone number of a guy who makes canvases back in Penn. I called and left a message, he returned my call and said that all he needed was the width of the canvases (rotten originals) and he had charts to make new ones. He quoted around $70 each for the three canvases.
