Hard to find the appropriate section for this question but here goes. I have been given one of these Chinese made motor scooters . Mechanicaly it is OK but the ''Plastic '' panels and fairing have cracks . I did consider using a fibre glass repair method . Using glass matt at the back where it wont be seen but I have been told the resin will not adhere to the ''Plastic ''. There appear to be two types of plastic . One is brittle the other is less brittle . Any ideas please ?

Or, goto an auto parts store and get some 2 part epoxy for plastic. Follow the directions, and use another piece of plastic and glue across the cracks from the backside. Then, you can get some plastic filler "like bondo but for plastic" and fill any cracks in and sand and paint the panel. It will look like new.

Thats the way I was thinking JK ....a special epoxy for plastic ,I will try and source some from my local auto store . Plastic welding , not sure if the is anyone who does it in this ''Country Town''. I did think of backing plates out of sight behind the cracks would also be an idea.
Thanks for all responses. |

I do autoboby repair, you might consider this process its fairly new.Get a piece of stainless wire mesh,22-28 gauge. cut it 2x2 inches, place it on the back of panel, straddling the crack, next use a high wattage solder iron.4-700 watt, heat the mesh patch up and sink it into your panel, let cool, then use your epoxy on the outside of panel, this process works well on smaller repairs, only use single strand wire rather than mesh,it does not have to be ss. good luck

Thanks JK . I will keep that method in mind . We have a product here called ''Termimesh ''.It is a SS mesh used for preventing Termites from coming up from under your house and ''Eating '' it even if it is sitting on a concrete slab

Auto Zone and O,Reillys carry a 2 part call plastic weld that is in a syringe and works great, we use it on trim panels that crack on cars, and it holds up well.
