Yes, I put it on this engine. I have seen several LA and LB IHC engines hooked up to car alternators for battery charging. I went one step beyond and made mine electric starting and charging. Works very well. What you are seeing here is the "maiden voyage" of this unit. Now I'm gonna get things sreamlined and usable....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zm64yjd-e38

Brian:
I've tried the same thing with my Homebrew Hvid engine with mixed results. It cranks fine but doesn't charge worth a hoot. My first brief checkout when I got the Delco unit found it to be in what appears to be good electrical condition. As it is, I made a pulley and cranked up the engine so the starter/generator was running at about 5,000 RPM and it would only make three amps, full field (field grounded). As it was, the field drew about 1.3 amps so the net charge was only about 2.7 amps. I'm gonna have to take it off and tear it down again and look for armature shorts, etc. Nice looking rig. Ok fellas! As requested, an electrical schematic diagram for a simple starter generator combination. As for a parts list, I used a short length of light angle iron, a 4L530W belt from Napa, a few bolts and nuts, and an old adjustable alternator bracket from a car. The reason you see two pix the same is because of camera flash. This way you can see each diagram clearly. The upper diagram is a complete system for use with a battery coil ignition system with timer. The lower diagram is the one used in my setup and will be the most commonly used as LA and LB engines use a magneto in place of a batt./coil. If you have any questions throw me an email and I'll help all I can.
