Hi,
I have had these engines for awhile, don't know what they are. Although the barrels are not the same size, they do appear to be made by the same manufacturer. The smaller engine, with the enclosed crankcase is all metric, from top to bottom. On the other engine, all components above the barrel are metric and below the barrel are witworth. When I acquired the larger engine, the chap told me to his knowledge it was built in a foundry in Geelong. He also told me they imported the cylinders from France. The smaller engine came from Henty, NSW, with no history. Recently whilst at the Swan Hill Pioneer Museum I noticed a Winter and Taylor engine in the collection. It was not like these engines but to me it looks like it is a French engine rebadged. I am fairly sure Winter and Taylor were made in Geelong. Can anyone add anything to this information? Hi Wayne. I'm pretty sure the Geelong vintage machinery club has a winter and taylor engine in their collection. i will try and find out a bit about it and get back to you . They might know of others that were locally made which might help. I know that there was quite a few odd little engines on display at a recent show which were all locally made. Cheers. Pete.

Hi Wayne, sorry it took a while. New camera.@#$%^#$!! So hopefully this pic will turn out O.K It's been that long since getting the info I've forgotten most of it. So next time I will take a pen and paper and write it down. Then get back to you with no guessing involved. Hope the pic works. Cheers. Pete.

Hi Rusty Pete,
Thanks for the photos. I can't remember exactly what the one in Swan Hill looked like. I know Tim Macaire took a photo of it when he was here, I will see if I can get a copy of it. Sometimes you can look at an engine and it is obvious where it was made. With this engine it doesn't give those types of clues. Looks like I need to go to Geelong and see it, but any information you can get on it is very much appreciated. Regards, Wayne www.bluefuel-whitesmoke.com |
