CB!
Been fighting that battle for nearly 60 years! So many of us were brought up on the old "3 squares" belief and that was okay when we worked on the farm or other manual labour. But today ........
The only way I can lose weight is to cut out a meal - the noon meal, or dinner as we used to call it (breakfast, dinner and supper - lunch was something you had at a funeral or after an evening card game!). Now, I know some will say that you should eat regular meals, but do we really need all that intake in this day and age?
Eat a little less, eat better foods with less fat, grease, etc, avoid fast food restaurants and doughnuts and try to be more active.
My old doctor, now departed, sent me to a nutritionist to help me lose weight after I had a nasty back injury. She was a real looker! But I actually lost weight faster than she demanded, I think mainly because there were clear goals set and a genuine need to stick to the program. Did I mention she was a doll? That gave me some incentive as well!
A friend here went on one of those high priced diets you see advertised on tv. He started at 350 lbs plus, went down under 200 in literally a few weeks. But after about 3 years, he is probably pushing 375 now with a gut down to his knees. He spent something like 4Gs and probably took a few years off his life. So that is not the solution!
There is no easy solution but whatever course you take, you have to stick to it!
Bon chance mon ami,
G.

Christian, as a road warrior for over 30 years living in hotels and access to excellent meals, regardless as to how good the food is or what it cost, I've found that as soon as I feel the slightest full I have the plate removed. Doing this has kept my weight the same within 10 pounds all these years.

Now when I'm home with my wife cooking, all bets are off.

The late comedian Milton Berle, overheard two women talking about dieting while eating their meal, and he spoke up and said . . . You can't lose weight by talking about it . . . You got to keep your mouth shut!

In all seriousness, some experts say; eat 6 small meals a day, as this not only causes your stomach to shrink, but also satisfies the metabolism. If you eat 2 or 3 large meals a day . . . then nothing . . . the metabolism will pick up on this, and hoard everything, as it sense's your starving between meals.

Here's a few other things of interest:

EATING FRUIT
We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?
IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH, or 2 to 3 hours after your meal!

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.
Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining - every time I eat water-melon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc - actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can you believe this? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Use olive oil and vinegar to get protection against cancer and, for diabetes help in managing blood sugar.

In a recent test-tube study from Spain, compounds in extra-virgin olive oil blocked the growth of human breast cancer cells. In other new research, people who regularly consumed vinegar had healthier blood sugar levels.

Any type of vinegar - red wine, balsamic, cider - appears to be beneficial, as long as it's 5% acid, says researcher Carol S. Johnston, PhD, of Arizona State University.

To make a first-rate vinaigrette, use 3 times as much oil as vinegar. Add a pinch of salt and pepper; for variety, throw in shallots, garlic, Dijon mustard, or fresh herbs.

I've read where they state; take 2-3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, twice a day to reduce your cholesterol, lower blood pressure, etc. (Mix the vinegar with any amount of water . . . DON'T drink it straight, as it's strong!)

If you have gall stones, drink 1 teaspoon of olive oil each day, as it'll soften the stones, so they'll crumble, and pass through your system. Olive oil has many other benefits too, but I don't remember them off hand!

One more thing . . . reduce your intake of white flour products, as it'll head for the stomach area. Eat more 100% wheat flour products, as you need the rest of the wheat kernel, in order to properly digest the white flour parts! According to some experts, people who have eaten 100% wheat products all of their lifes, have less health problems.

Watching TV in the evenings usually triggers something in the brain, where your looking in the refrigerator & cupboards to snack on! Some snack foods only fuels the problem. I usually try to satify those cravings with 2 slices of wheat toast & peanut butter, and a small glass of water with a some vinegar mixed in it. Notice I said . . . TRY, as it doesn't always work!

When a man stands straight up, and looks down, he should see his toes, according to some experts! If not, your stomach is too big!

Look up these things on the internet, as you'll be surprised what you'll find!

Don't try this at home!
A chap I worked with some years ago coined the phrase - "exlax diet". You can eat anything you want as long as you follow up with a couple bars of exlax!
It did work - but ..........................

You need a change of life style. When I became diabetic a year ago, I needed to lose some weight and I wasn't doing very well on my own. So I signed up for weight watchers and I am down about 30 pounds. You can look them up on the web or look in the phone book. They seem to be everywhere.

Kid, thats what I've done for a while to lose weight. I gaind 10 lb on the trip to Mt. Pleasant, and lost it in 3 days by going back off the pop, which I drank the whole time we were gone-- I want the caffiene while driving.
G- Wheelkicker was right in what he said too, as I was used to working a lot, and it took a lot of food to fuel that. Now I'm not nearly as active, but still want to shovel it in.
I stayed at about 175, which is what I weighed after jump school in the army, for about 35 yrs, then when I became unable to continue the hard work, I jumped to 200, & seem stuck there.
Gary K's advice on the olive oil & vinegar is good too-- I do use that stuff frequently.
Bon appetit guys!

I've had extra weight since my early 20's and a lot of it was snacking when I got home and eating at 10pm or later and going to bed.. thats a killer. Now i'm 47 and my weight seems to be keeping pace with my grey hair.. I stepped on the scales the other day and I was almost at...
340 lbs at 5'10" Now I eat a big coffee mug full of oats with raisins and brown sugar with my coffee.. at least a 2 ltr jug of ice tea throughout the day and fruit for lunch or fresh sliced tomatoes. and I only take a fist size portion of whatever for supper and call it quits! Minimum bread and no candy. I do use sugar in my tea. I'm positive walking more would get even better results but I'm not up to it yet ( lazy )
I've lost 14 lbs since 8/24 and my Dr. is a happy man.
My goal is 220 but any loss will help. The main thing to remember is.. it took 27 years to put on so it won't fall off over night! Good luck to all, it's a life choice!

Key is to eat right and watch what you eat. Also when you go to eat a proper meal, eat your fill and back away from the table. For some it's hard but i've taken this aditude with an unknown result. Hope it's good. I dont eat like i use too. Im 5'11 at 260 pounds. In a picture i look lean but the fact is im 50 or more out of balance. Growing up through my childhood is what did that though becouse before my parents were diagnosed with diabete's, Mom loved to make those cakes and pies. Now she makes those in a healthier way if any at all. But i resulted from the past. I keep an eye on it now even though i think my days of natural slimming is just about done. You start to gain the older you get. Then you really slim out when you hit 70 or 80 years old. But then its too late.

I use to cringe at the kids in school constantly downing suger of any form at an alarming rate, then crash in the after noon. I never did do that but if you have to snack, make it healthy. The "Other stuff" tast's good but it's also your enemy.

Now odly enough you CAN have "one of those snack's" but make it a limited amount and make it ONCE in a great while.

A few years ago I was almost 190 lbs. My wife is looking out for my diet now because of high colesterol and sugar. She buys and cooks only lean meats and controls portions. I don't put sugar on anything and I use the pepper shaker much more than the salt shaker. Our snack is lightly salted peanuts. I'm 70 and still active. Weight currently is 162 lbs. Only bad thing is my wife is jealous because she eats the same diet and doesn't lose any weight. She is not as active as I am.
