Default Leroi d201 engine

Hi everyone. I have a leroi d201 engine that came out of a gehl pull type feed chopper that has been in the family since new. It ran when i was a kid, but seized up. I dissasembled the engine and found one piston badly scored. I also would need a rod and at least 2 sleeves. What parts are available for this engine? Does anyone make a rebuild kit? I was told by the guys at allischalmers.com that this is the place to get answers about leroi's. Thanks alot.

The Allis people sent you here??? That's odd; my notes say the 201 and the 226 (the 226 is supposedly the same engine as the 201 but with a longer stroke) were built by Allis and sold to LeRoi, the only difference between the Allis engines and the LeRoi's supposedly the water pump (LeRoi used their own)....
If you mean the Allis people said 201 parts no longer available thru them, you'll want to talk to Ed Malcom "The LeRoi Man", who posts here.
If he doesn't see your post, you can search here and get an email to him thru the site, or you might search for other LeRoi 201/226 posts here that might answer your questions. Good luck.

What bore sleeves do you have? A lot of those engines had aftermarket "overbore kits" installed. Clevite probably still has them in stock.

I have books on these engines but so far have not been into any except the d 140. Check with napa as they have lots of difficult items to find and maybe an allis dealer. Ed the le roi man

So what are you trying to do here? If you need a ring set measure up the ring sizes and get a piston ring catalog. If you want sleeves and pistons, what bore do you have now? I am sure complete cylinder kits are available. Tell us what you are trying to do here.

Powertech84,

Here is what I have found about LeRoi / Allis Chalmers 201/226 engines.

They use the same bearings and the crankshafts will interchange.

I do not remember the compression height of the pistons, but a LeRoi rod is about a half and inch longer.

Allis Chalmers engines had the combustion chamber in the piston / cylinder, ie. power crater pistons.

Leroi engines have a combustion chamber in the cylinder head.

I took the insides out a 226 LeRoi and installed them in an AC block, years ago when we were tractor pulling.

LeRoi was supposed to have also made a 240 or 250 ci engine also, however I have never owned one.

There are some slight casting difference in the block, like small bumps along the pan rail, and other things are different with the accessories.

The intake / exhaust manifold was also different with the exhaust exiting out of the front rather than in the middle.

I also had some power units at one time off of Gehl forage harvesters.

The engines in the LeRoi Tractair look to have 201 heads so I would think they used those pistons also.

I have not been able to find a definitive answer about the relationship between AC and LeRoi except that AC us LeRoi engines in the 6-12, and the were close geographically.

Casting numbers may tell a little of the story most AC castings are marked AM-XXXX.

I do not remember what the casting numbers were on a LeRoi.

Paul
