If you're really careful in doing it, you should be able to straighten a slightly bent valve successfully. Of course, you will be more successful on an engine that has a lot of hours on it and the valve guides are worn, giving the valve more room to move to find it's seat.

Take care - Elden

Exclamation Re: Straighten a bent valve??

I did it on my 1966 Chevy 250-6 cylinder. A carb screw broke, and was ingested by a cylinder. The screw head was caught between the piston and the exhaust valve and the valve was bent. I straightened the valve, and didn't even have to re-lap the seat. It worked perfectly for another 270,000 miles (I got almost 460,000 out of the engine before oil sender failure damaged the bearings (The sender literally blew apart).

I got a service call one Friday, a man passing through town had his timing belt break on a Honda Accord. I checked and told him it was an interference engine and would likely have one or more bent valves, but I would try a belt and see what happens. The car ran but had a miss, one bent valve. I took the cover off, brought the cylinder to TDC, and removed the valve spring. Letting the valve touch the piston as I rotated it it would rise and fall. I put my dial indicator on the valve and tapped it down with a brass drift at the high spot. After a little tweaking I had it near zero. The car ran fine and the man was able to continue his trip.

Thanks guys, very interesting. In all my tinkering I've never seen or heard of doing this.
