Default Antique farm cart axles and wheels – information needed about fitting.

Hi.

I’m a writer. In my present novel, set 150 years ago, I need to describe what’s involved in removing a wheel from the axle of a horse-drawn farm cart.

To explain: I have a band of highway robbers intent on holding up a coach. As a subterfuge, they plan to block the road with a disabled farm cart, and to achieve this I thought of using a wheel coming off, seemingly by accident.

What is going to really happen is that the robbers will have to manhandle the wheel off.

So I guess I need to know how the wheel would have been fixed to the axle, in order that I know how to get it off.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The coach would have to be jacked up then a nut, washer and pin would have to be removed. If the robbers wanted to sabotoge the coach they would simply remove the the axel pin and the nut would work it's way off.Hope this helps .Regards, Jeff
