Default Battery & coil ignition sparks continuously

Here's a newbie question. I have a F&J farm pump engine with battery & coil ignition. I hooked up the battery & coil. The prior owner had put together a battery & coil box with an on/off switch. When I flip the switch on, the spark plug sparks continuously, without even rotating the flywheel. Cranking the flywheel has no effect - the spark just keeps going. Any suggestions?

It should only spark when the timer lets it.
Search buzz coil set up on stak and it should get you going.
good luck

Wiring a buzz coil: -negative post of battery wired to engine ground. Wire from timer contactor to - on coil + post on batterywired to one side of a switch, + from switch to + on coil. Hi tension to spark plug. As the timer wipes the contactor, the grounding circut is completed, causing the coil to spark. If you still have spark all the time, check to make sure timer is isolated from engine ground until the contact is made.
