Default 1904 - 6HP Model Engine Made in Auburn, IN - Only one known? Parker sale

This is a picture of a 1904 Model Engine which will be Auctioned On The Gary Parker Auction on Oct. 24th, 2009 We've been advertising this as the only one known. I was wondering if anyone knew about any more of these engines out there. And was wondering if anyone knew some history about Company.

Thanks

Dan

Would it have been a good idea to have asked that question BEFORE advertising it as the only one?

There are a few Model engines around and a couple more Goldie-McCulloch engine out of Guelph, ON which are supposed to be identical. Here's a pic of the Goldie that was at our show in June. I can tell you that this engine has a patent date in 1897 so the Model is probably around that age.

Dan, I remember seeing one in somebody's collection several years ago. It was very similiar to the engine in the photo but I remember some differences. I doubt there are more than a half dozen or so of them and if they're like some of the oddball breeds, no 2 are alike. So you may be correct that it may be one of a kind. One thing is pretty certain, its the only one that will be sold in the near future.

I have two model engines... but out west they were sold as Joshua Hendys. One of the models is a 25 HP hoist and was used in a mine in Idaho. The other is a 25 HP from a Colorado mine with electric fly wheels. I know of two smaller engines in California. I know of another engine in the wild. It is probably in the 20HP range.

My engines are missing some parts in the fuel system and in the govenor. I would love to exchange information with someone that has an engine of the same size. Thanks, Lauren

Nice original paint and striping on that one coming up for sale. How was the engine dated to 1904? Do you have a picture of the tag that you could share?
Thanks, Blair.

As per the attached ad the "MODEL" engines were built in 1902; perhaps earlier than that.

If a fellow stacker goes to the auction I would like some pictures of the fuel pump, the fuel valve on top of the valve chest. I would also like a picture of the intake valve, elbow on the front of the valve box. This would be helpful on my restoration. Thanks, Lauren

Haven't heard too many results from the auction yet, but apparently the Model is moving to Canada...
