I would like to fabricate the ignitor and trip mechanism for my Alamo engine so I could operate it off of a battery. The engine is missing the name plate but the serial number is 33XXX with a 5 inch stroke, 3 3/4 inch bore and 20 inch flywheels. I have been told it was probably made in 1916 or 1917. I have found several pictures of Alamo ignitors on the internet but they aren't detailed enough for me to understand the operation of the trip mechanism. Does this ignitor open the points between cycles to save the battery? Any further information would be appreciated.
