I have an 430 WO John Deere. I can find very little about this tractor, it has a special transmission. It has a forward and reverse lever with a 2 speed HI and Low range with 5 speed transmission. Serial # is WO 145186. If I figured right it has 11 forward gears and 7 reverse. It is all factory. Any help would be great. Thanks Mike

I expect it's an orchard.......but even BETTER is the shuttle shift!.......

No such thing as a 430 orchard.......
........that I have found.......If you REALLY want the straight dope on it Two Cylinder Club charges a few bucks (quite a few to non-members) to archive it for you. John Deere USED to archive tractors but I THINK they turned that over to Two Cylinder. http://www.two-cylinder.com/research.htm Interestingly......a GOOGLE search for "john deere 430 wo" turned up THIS thread as the only result......

New one on me. It may be a factory custom job Tractor. Most of the custom job tractors were made for certain mfg's to add their allied equipment. Ex. Forklifts , Trenchers. I would do a Serial Research and see what turns up. Most of the tractors I'm talking about have a CJ on the sn plate. The Dubuque plant was famous for building anything you wanted. I can not answer what the "O" means at this time. An Orchard tractor would have been equipped differently than this unit. Why would an Orchard unit need that shuttle trans.? Merton

Craig, I measured the hood and it is 44" long on top. I do not know how long a 430 hood should be. It has not been lengthened. I will do the serial search and see what it will reveals. I know very little about JD's. Here is a picture of the Tag.

The reverser looks almost identical to the one on my 440 crawler. Also you could try the folks at johnnypopper, a lot of knowledgeable people there.

It is a basic 430 Rowcrop utility tractor. The shuttle shift was an option and I think you had to have the optional 5 speed transmission to go with it.

I looked at the picture of the tag again. If you mean the O in the middle of that line, it is not part of the regular serial number. It it had two letter like an all fuel or an LP model the second letter would be next to the letter W.

Mark's right about the reverser, it was an option used mainly on the 440I, the industrial version of the 430. I agree the O means nothing, it's not part of the number. That said, a 430W w/reverser is probably rare enough on its own merits....wish my 435 had one. Hood looks like a regular 430 to me....if I could find my dang 430 parts book, I'd sound a lot more intelligent...

Thanks for the insight on the little 430. I took it in on trade and knew little on them. Mike
