Hello all,
I think the end is near, three days ago we set a record for the earliest recorded snow fall. Today it is sunny and 70 degrees, the best part is still not being able to be outside because of the invasion. We are having ladybugs today like a snow blizzard, we had invasions before but nothing at all like this. I can't even let the cats out in the sun room it looks like a giant ladybug farm in there, the dog will not go out to do her thing, I was outside long enough to snap the pictures and it took me ten minutes to get them all off of me before I could go back in the house! Snow, bugs...................what could possibly be next? Jim |

We had a similar event here with ladybugs about 8 or 9 yrs ago. Thick as thieves! They were even in our house. They didn't spell out any words or other omens but within a few days they were gone. Later in the fall I brought my snowmobile out of storage. When I lifted the hood there hundreds of them under there. All dead of course. The shop vac took care of them and all the other bugs.

Same deal here in New Hampshire - snow on Sunday, 60's today - and pumpkin beetles by the tens of thousands. Those bugs are useless; nothing likes to eat them except my vacuum cleaner - which is how I deal with them once they find their way into the house (which they always do, and in large numbers).

I just noticed a few around here today.. not as many as we had a few years back.. those pictures reminded me of the mass invasion.
I thought I would be a wise guy and get rid of a few thousand on the front of the work shop and fired up the shop vac and started in on them.. It didnt take long for the smell of a thousand stinky little bugs to stop me I fogged the vac with a shot of raid and disposed of them.

Chinese ladybugs BITE if you give them a chance.......we've had (HAVE) plenty of those too but BESIDES those we are being invaded by Boxelder bugs.......
.......At least the lady bugs DIE......not so with these damn Boxelder bugs.......

They must be bad in our area this year, the ladybugs made the local news this evening. A few more days like today and I' ll be able to fill a five gallon shop-vac. It is amazing how well and how many find their way in the house when I can not see how or where.
The cats are exhausted from playing with their new toys. ![]() Jim |

Emerald ash borers are in the state........with BIG penalties for transporting firewood. This state is a MAJOR timber and pulp producer so that stuff is taken very seriously.
I just looked for a some control tips for the boxelder bugs.......it doesn't look good....... ![]() http://doyourownpestcontrol.com/boxelder.htm The nasty things are nearly indestructible....... .......

You've gone GREEN Kid.......
![]() That's a good, non-toxic way, to kill them but you have to stay at it. The detergent softens the exoskeleton and the bug dies. It also isn't harmful to any birds who might eat the dead bugs....... ![]() I'm proud of you!.......

I have a huge Sunburst Locust in the back yard, that aphids have taken a liken to thanx to a ant colony nearby. I use a greencross sprayer with Sunlight dish soap and coupled to my outdoor hot water tap. Lace the tree with detergent, let stand 24 hours than rinse with cold. The cheap no frills brand of lemon dish soap will not work on them.
On another note, vinegar is the new Roundup here. Robert |

Vinegar is FABULOUS on soap scum too.....
Chemicals won't touch it with our hard water, but vinegar chows it safely from the old porcelain. I can just imagine what it does to the bugs!My husband joked that his Grandmother used to make "wilted lettuce & cucumbers" by pouring vinegar over them......he commented, "No wonder my insides are messed up!" Said they were really good.![]() Beth |

The lady bugs have been released to combat some of these evasive catapillars and other insects that destroy vegitation.
