best degreaser to clean a engine


whats the best stuff to clean that wont harm the orignial paint. thanks matt

Default best degreaser to clean a engine

whats the best stuff to clean that wont harm the orignial paint. thanks matt

Tar and bug remover is my weapon of choice for the really thick hard to get off stuff, and then i use ATF for thiner grime.

Matt:

Go to your local auto parts store and get some "Gunk" concentrate. It also comes in aerosol cans but I haven't used that form of it so can't comment.

Mix the concentrate as instructed with kerosene and apply as instructed. Works like a champ and is not hard on paint.

I clean off what I can with a rag, then use ERA laundry detergent liquid or Ivory dish soap, I paint it on with a brush nice and think and let it set for a few hours, wash off and repeat. I use a toothbrush to clean with and have never taken original paint off yet.

Dawn dish detergent works wonderful on baked on steam cylinder oil on a boiler.
