i saw this saw at the scrap metal yard and had to have it. it's an old mcculloch and the bar is about 35" long.
i got it home and did a few minor things to it, took off the bar, and got it running!!! well not for long, the gas line came off then i had difficulty repeating the running event. but this thing is freaky huge and weighs 37lbs. does anybody know what model it is?

Great save! Nice saw. There are several good antique chainsaw sites online and they should all be listed here in various posts, (my only problem is keeping up with them all). I don't know how well it reflects their true value but saws, parts and literature are always on ebay, (I have broken down and bid on a few things to complete or repair something I have), some of the prices are laughable but I guess if I had to part with them I'd ask that too. Put it on your shelf where visitors can see it and before long it will have plenty of company.

I owned a Mcculloch saw shop in the70's. that looks like an 890. I sold one to a big logger and he used a 36" bar on it. Turn it over and look on the bottom of the crankcase near the front end. There should be some numbers on there, the model number on one side and the serial number on the other. That is only true of the original crankcase. Those were real he man saws. does it have a compression release lever? The later ones did.

GA:
thanks for that info. "he man" saw is right. when my neighbors see me cutting firewood with this motha, they're going to soil their shorts. this bar measures just under 36" total length. it's got a lever but i didn't know what it was for. if it's a compression release it sure will come in handy. starting this thing should be an Olympic event. i'll look underneath again tomorrow and post the numbers. i gave a cursory glance this eve but didn't see anything. Rene: i looked at a few sites but couldn't find any info on this saw. i'm going to google "Mcculloch 890" and see what i find. |

You might find some info on Mike Acres site: http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf?OpenDatabase
I have a circa 1955 Clinton chain saw with a shorter bar that weighs in at 37 lbs. It's relatively easy to start without a compression release. When revved up it's hard to turn as the flywheel acts as a gyroscope! Bill |

890 or 895 gear driven......I agree.
The model number and serial should be stamped underneath the saw ...bottom of crankcase.....have a look!!! ... ![]() Alain, |
