Default Fairbanks Morse Mag timing

I have a FM 6hp Z engine that was orginaly equiped with a AB 33 mag. I have a FM type R mag that I want to put on the engine(more reliable). My manual says to time the mag by lining up the marked teeth. Both the engine and mag do not have any marks on the gear teeth. Is there another way to time the mag? Thanks for the help.

there should be a tooth on the mag gear that has a bevel on it. that is the mark for timing the mag. the cam gear should have two beveled teeth on the gear. my friend just got a 6hp and thats the marks on his. there should also be a beveled tooth on the crank shaft gear as well. line all of them up and you should be good to go.

Ray. I have looked at all of the gears and can't find any beveled teeth. This engine was built with an American Bosch trip mag rather than a rotary type and is the R. The new R mag I have also has an impulse system on it. I had thought there might be a way to get every thing lined up other than the method from the manual.

heres a nother method i was told to try. Point the crankshaft throw straight up. and align the cam so the lobe is up also. this would give 1 or 2 teeth out from being dead on timing. use the breaking of the points on the mag to help time that to the engine. this could work for you.
