On a similar note. I can only imagine the smell.

I remember I think back in the 70's they blew up a beached whale on the oregon coast, and some of the chunks landed on bystanders cars. Probably find a video of it on youtube.

Let's throw another whale on the barby! As Jed Clampet would say " Well Doggy that is tasty". Or not, just add your favorite sauce and it will be all right! Or you can get sauced and it will be even better!!!

Is it possible it could have had a slight case of gas?

I vaguely remember seeing that on one of the TV news programs, but I'm thinking it was in the late 1980s or early to mid 90s. I may have even recorded it on the VCR, but with hundreds of unlabled tapes I'll never find it again.

After trying to move it with bulldozers and tug boats, they decided to blast it.

I think they had one of the building demolition crews come in to do the blasting..... BUT.... They had no idea how to estimate how much dynamite to use on a whale, and ended up using Way Too Much. There were a couple cars crushed by large chunks of it crashing down on them several hundred yards away. I don't think any people were injured by it, but some were splattered on pretty bad.

Ooops ! My Bad !

And then the feeding frenzy began with the birds swooping in.

There was a recent show on discovery channel about a whale that exploded on a truck in Taiwan. The whale had died on a beach, and it was bring trucked to a museum for a necropsy (animal autopsy). Internal gas pressure from decay blew it apart! They also showed the oregon explosion. 50 sticks of dynamite sure made a mess, blew 1/2 ton parts 1/2 a mile away, and they still had to bulldoze what was left!
