Default Help ID this old Hobart welder/generator

I just got a lincoln sa 200 and it came with a "parts rig" the "parts rig" is an old Hobart Brothers machine with a hercules flat head 4 engine so it is of absolutely no use to me. So I figure I'll sell it on Craigslist. The only problem is I can't figure out what it is or what it might be worth. It has a big old wheel on the side that says Hobart Bros Troy Ohio, no ID plate on generator. The engine has the numbers 694497 1xb5 stamped on the block. Thanks in advance for your help I'll try to get some pics soon. Matt

It is a engine driven welder, the wheel is the amps adjuster.
You might have better luck, on this site. this is their forum for generators/welders hobartwelders\generators/welders
A couple of pictures will work wonders.

Can't say if it's the same as mine without seeing a picture of it, (& mine is buried in a corner where I can't get pictures of it right now), but you might want to take a look at the hand wheel on it.

If it's like mine, there should be a couple tabs on the sides that allow you to pop out the control unit and plug it into an extension cord and then plug the other end of the cord into the welder where the handwheel popped out. That lets you take the amp control knob to where you're welding and make adjustments 'on the fly' if you need to without having to yell at someone else to crank up the amperage. Saves a lot of time climbing up & down a ladder if you're welding something on the roof of a building or down in a pit or something if you're working alone. Nice early example of a remote control unit.

I'd have to look again to see if mine is 250 or 300 amp, but it has a wisconsin V-4 on it. Had been powered by a straight eight Buick before that.
