Default Craftsman Lathe - Need Help

I have a Craftsman Lathe (1944?) that was made by the Atlas Company for Craftsman. The bracket that holds the forward and reverse hand feed gears for the carriage assembly is broken. See the pictures on the link provided. I would appreciate any help or information anyone can give me regarding locating a new part or repairing the old one. It has already been welded once. Thanks

Use to have one just about like yours. You are SOL for new parts!, they haven't stocked parts for Atlas in 30 years. , maybe more. You can make a new one, no big deal, start the mill up...luck to you.......

Van you may be right but I hope you are wrong. I have been referred to a Yahoo Internet Craftsman Group. This group is dedicated to the users of Atlas metalworking machinery including lathes, shapers and horizontal mills produced for Sears by Atlas and AA Engineering under the Craftsman name. I am taking my request to them. If I come up with anything I will let you know. Thanks for the comeback.

Paul

I also have an OLD Craftsman-Atlas 12" Lathe. Parts are still available. I bought a few quick change parts early this year.

The company is now Clausing Corp. I will have to dig for the address and phone # if you can be patient.

Check to see if there is a Craftsman Model and Serial # on that lathe. You will need them for parts. If you can find a part #, all the better.

HEY, better yet, send me the M and S #s and I will check for you. OK ? I think I can find It on the NET as I did mine.

Paul, Do a search on Google for Clausing Lathe Co. I think you will find they have a Web Site. I also bought some Atlas parts off E-Baay. There is some used parts there. Bring up E-Bay and type in atlas lathe parts and see what you come up with. I haven't been on it lately but I think you will find something there. Good Luck, Dale

Hello Again Jim,

I just went back out and checked the carriage assembly that has the broken bracken on the gear cluster. I found a number inside of this assembly,t he number is 10F-9A. I don't know if this is any help or not.

Dale, I have already checked out the parts on E-bay and he does not have the parts I am looking for. He had a complete carriage assembly for a 6" lathe but not for a 12" lathe. I would have bought the whole assembly just to get the bracket but it is the wrong part. Thanks

Jim, I just found the Model #, it was in the front page of the Operator's Manual I have with the lathe. It is a Model 101.07403. Still no serial number but maybe this will help.

Paul, Try Dave Sobel at Sobel Machine, 93 Garry Rd. Closter, NJ 07624. He will ship anywhere and is very honest. He is a little old and deals in a some what unconvensional way (no website, no credit cards, no order forms, etc. He will check his inventory and get back with you. He always comes through as promised. 201-768-0645. Give him your Model # and he might have the part you need. Dale

Well Paul, so what if it was welded once? There are LOTS of lousy welders out there---and a lot of them are certified! Take it to a good welder and fix it. Same thing happened to our South Bend---we welded it--about 15 years ago. Craig

Paul, Clausing took over Atlas. Your contact is: Clausing Service Center, 811 Eisenhower Drive, So., P.O. Box 877, Goshen, Indiana 46526. 219-533-0371. I got some stuff from them about 10 years ago. Hope this still holds true. Regards, Al
