Default NEW TO SMOKSTACK

HI TO ALL FROM DOWN UNDER, WELL I MUST SAY THAT I HAVE FOUND THIS SITE INTERESTING AND AMUESING. I SPENT AN HOUR OR TWO LAST NIGHT LOOKING THROUGH MANY PAST COMMENTS TO FIND THE THOUGHTS OF "Y'ALL" MUCH THE SAME AS HERE IN AUSTRALIA. I AM NEW TO COLLECTING AND RESTORING (15 MONTHS) AND HAVE TO SEARCH HARD TO FIND ENGINES; BUT HARD WORK PAYS OFF. I WONDER IF SOME OF YOUR TYRE KICKERS ARE DREAMERS ??, I KNOW THAT ONCE I STARTED TO GO TO THE ODD SHOW AND SEE A FEW UNIQUE ENGINES I STOOD AND DREAMED ABOUT OWNING ONE OR TWO MYSELF. I FELT A MIXED REACTION TO THIS, SOMEONE WOULD SHARE ALL THERE EXPERIENCES WITH YOU AND THE NEXT GUY MIGHT LOOK AT YOU STUPIDLY AND BASICALY SAY... "GET YOUR OWN" THESE DREAMS ARE WHAT GOT ME MORE INTO RETORING ENGINES!

THE DREADED PAINT COLOUR! SAME OUT HERE, ONE MAN SAYS LEAVE IT IN ITS WORKING CLOTHES, NEXT SAYS TO RESTORE IT TO ITS ORIGINAL COLOUR AND ANOTHER WILL GRIND OUT ALL THE CASTING MARKS, BODY FILL IT AND GIVE IT A TWO PACK PAINT JOB. LOVE IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER I SUPPOSE BUT IT DOES SEEM THAT IF AN ENGINE SHOW IS GOING TO GIVE OUT AN AWARD TO THE BEST RESTORED ENGINE THEN IT MOST LIKELY GOES TO THE 2 PACK PAINT JOB!

LOOKING FORWARD TO READING SMOKSTACK, CHEERS FROM DOWN UNDER, RUSSELL

Yes yes I Agree . I have been designing a very unique trophy I will be taking to Portland next year , "The Order of The Painted Pulley " It will be in the List Tent for all to drool over , judging held during the final minutes of the international malted beverage tasting contest . In case of a tie on scratch counts , the one that has never had gas in it wins .

I have always thought that better than new was not restored, maybe remanufactured instead. I like the idea of your award, sounds neat.

By the way as I may be kinda dumb about this, but which Portland? Living on the west coast I am more inclined to think of Portland, Oregon before the other Portland's around the country. Thanks!

Response to Chuck B: I'd like to enter my JD 1 1/2 "E" for the "OoPP" award!! It's never had gas in it since restoration because everybody knows how they bleed all over the place when running!!And then it would ruin my carpet when I bring it back into my living room!!I let my Stovers run at the shows-No paint on their pulleys!!

For amusement during the cabin fever times, How about some suggestions on best restored engine trophy's. My entry, One gallon of body filler, one quart of Brasso polish, A bundle of polishing cloth's. And a big sign, LOOK, BUT DO NOT TOUCH.
