Default Engine Ads (1904-1920) from Rod and Gun Magazine.

The magazine is called "Rod and Gun and Motor Sports in Canada" and I picked out the old engine ads for the years 1904 to 1920. As the magazine is about fishing and hunting, most engines are marine engines. I've started out with engine companies with names starting with the letters A, B and C. Check it out here:

http://buzzcoil.brinkster.net/MARINE/pagecover1.html

Let me know if there is interest for these ads and if so I will add more until I reach engine companies with names starting with the letters X, Y and Z.

There are many Hamilton ads. Here is one for now, before I reach the letter "H" in the INDEX.

Denis - I look forward to the whole series of the alphabet. Thank you for taking all the time to put your website pages together. I can't imagine the amount of hours you have put into your researching, scanning, and building of the site. Thanks, Larry.

Great work Denis. While I'm more of a portable and stationary engine guy, I love looking at all the old iron and the marine engine ads are neat!

These are great, Denis. Please keep adding to your site. Where did you find such a variety of Rod & Gun mags? They're not easy to come by.

Hi Blair, the easy part is to find the Rod and Gun in Canada mags as they are online for everyone to read:

http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/bibliography/39030

Where it becomes more labor intensive is to pull the ads of interest to engine collectors, crop and enhance the ads and present them in such a way that people can see them in an organized fashion. This is what I'm trying to do and I'm a long way before completing the project but it will get done eventually.

Dennis thanks so much for taken the time to do this. I know what it is like to search find and save few myself, for all the Detroit info I have researched over the years.

Included in these engine ads is up to companies starting with the letter "G":

Any one seen a Gilson marine engine? I have not to this day.

Denis
I hope there is information on the first marine engine (Hawboldt gas engine co. of Chester N.S.) and the Acadia marine engine.

Wayne, unfortunately these 2 Nova Scotia engine builders did not advertize in this specific magazine

Hi Denis, Just wanted to say Thank You!! The ads are great; and the time spent correlating, enhancing, etc. is very much appreciated. I have an early 2 HP Buffalo, and naturally I was quite pleased to see those ads in particular. Now, I can look forward to the "S" listings to see what pops up for my St. Lawrence! Bob

I've finally reached the marine engine builders with names starting with the letter "S", consequently including the St-Lawrence Engine Company. In all these years I was only able to find one ad for St-Lawrence.

You might want to go back as I've added more ads from another magazine called "Canadian Fisherman" and I added other companies like Acadia that never advertized in "Rod and Gun".

Look here: http://buzzcoil.brinkster.net/MARINE/000index.html

Wayne, there is nothing on Hawboldt in Rod and Gun in Canada OR in Canadian Fisherman magazines between the years 1904-1920.

Do you have any literature on Hawboldt?

Thumbs up Re: Engine Ads (1904-1920) from Rod and Gun Magazine.

Denis, Thanks so much for the posted St. Lawrence ad. Mine is a little 2 cylinder, but that is a great ad just the same! Like you said, there's not a lot of St. Lawrence advertising to be found. Bob
