Default Lincoln SA 200 welder: please help

I'm trying to rebuild a 1965 red face, we got it running and the 120dcv outlet and the exciter is working. The welder lugs only have 2.5 volts. We took the wires off the main brushes and the selector switch, we found no open circuits. Where do I go from here or where can I get information on how to find the trouble. Thank You.

Make sure brushes are moving freely and armature is clean. Recheck all wires inside and connections. Make sure the main selector switch lugs behind panel are in position correctly not in between lugs. If it hasn't been running in a long time may have to flash it to excite the armature. Lincoln manual IM-471 for the Classic I welder has good flashing instructions and other trouble shooting instructions.

Contact them at Bill's or another local welder repair in your area too.

Thanks for the reply. I thank my problem is in the main fields, I only have 20 ohms and should have 40. I guess I'll have to take the generator off and take it to Stumpf's. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Monty.

Monty,
Many of us use coils from Hybriweld those fit better than the ones you can get from Lincoln now. Might also try Martinez in Louisianna hear good things about their coils but I haven't tried them yet.

I was hoping to find a used machine around here for a price like that but i guess the gass fields have about taken all of them and run the prices up on the ones that are left.

I have not found a SA200 for less than $1500 even not running ones anywhere near me.

Bob

Back east and up north some running machines were going for $300 to $800 but when things pick up more now. Most any SA200 that runs here goes for $1200 on up. SA200 red face machines from 1960s will still bring $3000 on up the all copper pure DC machines weld better and still bring more.
