Default Tecumseh engine identification

Hi everyone i am new here and this looks like a great place to chat about the things i am interested in.

I need help please to find the age of my engine etc through the code on the engine.

This is a tecumseh with breaker points i think 8 hp, fitted to a westwood gazzell ride on mower. This is the original engine for the mower it is fitted too.

Any help would be great, the code is V60-70256J SER1188D

Have looked online untill my eyes bled but cant find anything that includes this code number or part of it.

Steve

V60 = 6HP Vertical crankshaft.

70256J = type number. gives special info on engine build and accesories.

Serial #1188D = date of manufacture. In your case 188th day of 1971. D indicates shift or line.

Hope this helps! -Brian

Thank you, that helps me a great deal.

I shall be continuing the restoration today, yesterday was the first day that the engine had run in many years so i took the opertunity to ride it round the garden a fiew times before stripping it down for a repaint of the heat shields and block.

Thanks again

Steve
