Default Surging Kohler 22.5hp Craftsman Question

While mowing yesterday, I noticed the motor kind of stalled and was running at half speed. To me it was as if it had jumped time or slipped time. I stopped it and thought I was running out of gas. I looked at the fuel filter and saw that there was just a trickel running through. I took the line off and blew back into the tank, thinking that something was clogged, also took the fuel line off on the output side of the fuel pump. I had plenty of gas coming out. I started (tried several times- like it was flooded) . I got it started, but when it idles there is a surge. You can see the governer lever working with the spring. I have cleaned all the dirt and grass from around the carburetor, have not taken the blower housing off to see inside. Does anyone have a good guess to what could be the problem? It is a Kohler model CV-22-PS.67515

Is this the first time you've used the mower after sitting for a period of time? If so, how old is the gas and does it contain ethanol? Not saying that's your problem but sounds like the ethanol syndrome to me.

If it was me, first thing I'd do is drain the gas tank and replace with some new fuel, preferably non ethanol if you can get it, and try running the engine again.

Bill

Thanks Bill, and no its not the first time this year. I get my gas in Piedmont and they "claim" 100% gas. I guess I could drain and start over. Thanks again'

Loosen the gas cap and see what it does.On some of these, the vent hole isn't large enough.

Thanks guys, I did take the gas cap off and clean. Maybe not venting enough. Cleaned the clear plastic & E to F guage. I mowed yesterday and seemed to be ok. Thanks again to all.

You may have a lil bit of a water issue. Try a small amount of 91% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol in the tank. Just a couple ounces will remove most water. Surging is the governor telling the engine it wants more fuel!
