Default Float problems

Hello -

I have Reo 552A with a Carter Model N carb. The carb float has a pinhole in it, so it keeps filling up with gas. I've tried to find the hole and sodder it up, but no luck. How can I seal the float? I'd like to get a new one if I could, but I can't seem to find anyone who sells them. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Chris

Chris, There is a special paint they make for model airplains that is heat and fuel proof. Just paint your float with it. You can find it at your local hobby shop. Be sure to read the label. I used it on my old JD. Brian

These holes are sometimes almost IMPOSSIBLE to find but they CAN be found. I use 2 ways to make these leaks show themselves. One is to heat water nearly to the boiling point and plunge the chilled float into it. A bubble will usually (but not always!) form at the hole. The other is gently heat the bare float with a light bulb or some other non-open flame source and slowly roll the float around 'till a wet spot shows itself. Then open the hole a bit with an awl, drain the gas and solder over. I've done this many times but the hardest part is FINDING the damn leak! Craig
