Default Emerald One 1983 wiring question

MY 1983 motorhome generator solenoid melted last year. Leaving on vacation next weekend and ordered one which was suppose to work. Looks nothing like the one I took off ( Ford type) it looks like the one on my Craftsman mower. Anyway it wont work. I did a little searching here I was going to look in my shop manual buy cant find it now) Am i to understand that this uses grounds to operate the solenoid instead of power? The only 12v line I have is the one from the battery. Is this correct. I think I have the wrong one. I believe my gen is a 4000 BFA, does this sound right? Any help you got I will take. After this is working I have to move on to the fridge it stopped to and I think its board is only 3 or 4 years old. Thanks!

Too many different types of solenoids out there, and too many different ones that Onan used on various models, to make any type of determination without your model and serial numbers.
Had one on my NH that was electrically correct, but the battery and starter terminals were reversed - the cable from the generator wouldn't reach around to the proper side - previous owned had "made it fit". NAPA had the right replacement, but I had to study the NAPA book, along with the NH diagram, to know which one I needed. (NH diagram furnished by helpful
"Stak-er" after my providing the proper model/serial numbers).
