You got any more info on it such as type or style of carb ? Does it have an i.d. tag with any more #'s on it ? Knowing the bore & stroke would be a big help. Could you take a guesstimate at the year vintage ? Any idea what the motor powered ? Approx. HP ? Does it have an external mag ? Is it a std. 14 mm plug or is it larger and is the plug located vertical or horizontal ? Does it have any resemblance to a Briggs ? Tecumseh ? Lauson ? Clnton ? Wisconsin ? Help us help you.

Wisconsin made some of them. I have one that the Wards model is WMC-AK. (Wisconsin Motor Corporation model AK) Theres a model number list for Wisconsin engines at www.asecc.com that tells hp and production begin/end dates.

i think what you have was built by hummer, i have no other info. it should have a mag that is direct connected to the crankshaft. i have 2 of these, one is on a base that looks like it had a generator on it, it is kick start. skip in nw montana

You have a Hummer. I have one of these. It has a kick starter, sits on a cast gas tank. Some have generators attached for charging old time radio batteries so Ive been told.

I have one of those, fully restored. Quite a nicley built engine. Has a 2-1/8 bore and a cast bronze rod. The external mag can be a pain, and will rub the rotating magnet if bumped. Mine does not have a mag cap but I see that Otto has them. They are a pretty good running engine. the kick start operates the cam shaft so the starting rotation is double the normal, I suppose that is to get the extra speed for the direct drive mag. most parts are not available for that engine. It is not a Briggs, Techumseh, Clinton, Reo, Lauson, Iron horse, nor does it resemble any of them. I heard it was manufactured in the late 40's to charge military batteries. But the war ended and was sold to the public as a domestic battery charger. Word has it that it is a 1/2 horsepower. I would like to know more about mine. Most of the info I have is put togather as bits and pieces form any source talking. Al

I have a couple of these little guys. One is a National Battery Charger, the other a plain old Hummer. I've only been told it is a Hummer. Tag says Mont. Ward Mod E2, 5/8 horsepower. I collect generators and am partial to a lot of Onan stuff. I mention Onan, because Mont.Ward seems to have adopted Onan's line for generators thru the 40s and 50s. I have a B6 Onan engine with a Wards tag, and it is fortyish, maybe late 30s. I don't know if the Nationanl might also have been offered as a Mont. Ward, but the Hummer is definetly not Onan. Because of the construction of my National,I'm thinking that it is child of the 30s, and it would follow that the Hummer is also,no proof. Maybe someone has some old Wards catalogues, it would be nice to find out.

Guss. Mine has a mag where your generator is. Where are your points, and does the generator also double as a mag? Is that base also a gas tank? I also have been told that they were a Hummer. I have never seen it in print nor do I know it to be the real name or just a nickname. Al

Al, the National Charger has a battery & coil ignition, the points are in the end of the generator, can't remember where the coil is but it's there somewhere. The fuel tank is under the base and is all copper. I'd also like to see documentation of the Hummer name, someone once told me it was made by Sattley(did I spell that right?), but I'm guessing that theory came from the fact that M.W. sold their line of engines earlier on. My regular Hummer has a shaft mounted mag, and yes they a very sensitive to getting bumped around as the mag on mine used to get hot until I figured it out. I realigned it by tapping it with a rubber mallet

I heard that Sattley rumor also. I do not know where that info came from. I have a M-W Satley 1-1/2 hp hit/miss dishpan with a wico mag built between 1925 and 1938. this engine has no resemblence to the small one. there doesn't seem to be any indication that they were built in the same factory, ie. similar bolts, machining techniques, governor similarites, forgings, or casting finish. It seems that this is an animal all its own with very little documented history. Al
