First post. I recently purchased a MEP-002A 5KW, Generator at a Government auction. I got the manual for it and it shows the following:
Fuel Filter: Fram Corp. Model: 244350 Part No. C-1125PL Fuel Strainer: Fram Corp. Model: Part No. 244344 Fuel Strainer Element: Part No. C1824 Air Cleaner: Donaldson Co. Inc. Model: Part No. KAX 00-3851 Air Cleaner Element: Part No. P101222 Engine Oil Filter: Fram Corp. Model: Part No. 170429 Oil Filter Element: Part No. MS35802-2 Before trying to start it I want to replace the filters, etc. I am having a hard time figuring out what are comparable filters, etc. Can anyone give me the Manufacturer and part number for the above items. I would really appreciate it. |

One of the regulars over on the steel soldiers web site makes machined spin on oil filter adapter that uses easy to find filters if you want to go that route. I don't own a MEP-002, but I seem to recall reading that there is a commonly available NAPA oil filter that will work in it with minor modification (punching an oil return hole or something).

Best to order them from rockauto.com and use the original fram numbers. If you buy cross over filters the gaskets won't be correct and the fit is not good. The strainer can be gotten from delks surplus, I paid $25 for a new one, but unless it's missing or damaged can be easily cleaned.

Can these Napa filters be used on the Libby MEP002A as well as the Onan?

napa filters are what they are junk. they are to short to fit the fuel filter cans properly and make a good seal. and the oil filter requires bending the fingers in the bottom of the can. if you do this then you cant use the proper fram filters just best to get fram ch6pl oil filter 4.90 at race mart fuel filter c1125pl 6.09 at race mart. you cant even buy napa crap filters for that.

uhh, actually, fram filters are notoriously poorly made (go search for fram cardboard destroyed engine), while napa filters are generally high quality wix or baldwin mfr'd. the crossover might not fit the MEPs, but that is not indicative of the filters construction quality.
you might also consider doing this much cheaper spin-on conversion - http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showth...+on+conversoin i haven't done it yet, but am planning for it in the fall since almost EVERY OTHER filter is more well made than fram. even walmart's house brand supertech filters are more well made using metal end caps. if i get really ambitious, i may even pull the factory fuel filter setup and get a standard spin-on filter & head assembly to ditch the cartridges all together. ahm |
