If you don't care what it looks like, get an alternator off a junked vehicle and belt it on. A Delco 10SI is pretty standard and can be had with only one wire needed to be connected to the output stud, IF you can rev it enough so it excites reliably each time you start using it. Many don't excite at low rpm without the wiring to the regulator plug etc.

DG , Jim is throwing a 2 4 1 at you. first off the alt is 3 phase ac, rectified to dc and regulated to 14 +/-. the alt will out perform the gen usually for a longer time. 2nd the alt that jim speaks of is one wire hook up and has been around for a long time with 110% results. ithink this was an early delco tron? the only generator i need is 120/240 single phase 12k or so.

DG - -- I have a CPAP humidifier machine that draws 1.3 amps Max at 110 to 115 vac.
I use a delco single wire alternator to charge a 12 volt battery. I then have a 600 watt inverter to supply the 115 vac. from the battery.

The alternator is spun by a 5hp B & S engine. As Jim said you will have to rev it up pretty high to get it excited. Once that is done you can slow the engine way down, and still get a pretty good charge to the battery. ( 60 amp alternator )
My package supplies enough power for a 20 inch tv and the CPAP in our motorhome while dry camping. - - -the B & S needs to run fast enough for cooling, and is a little fuel thursty. - - -But the package works fine. A hit & miss will probably do just fine with that big flywheel, and slow RPM.
Best Regards: - - Gary.

Both my CPAP machines have a 12Vdc Power Inputs, which I use as an ultimate Backup System. Check the Back of the machine to see if there isn't a 12 Vdc Power Plugin. Mine usually draws about 1.5 Amps @ 12 Vdc. Group 27 Battery does just fine for a couple of nights with no problem.

Thanks. yes I do use mine on 12 vdc. I'm glad you mentioned time with 27 batt.I didn't have any idea how long a charge would last.

My cpap is strictly AC. However the label states"suitable with a 12 volt inverter, 200 to 300 watt range. " -- - Gary

Just checked my CPAP, no 12vdc input available. I guess the money I spent on the inverter wasn't wasted.
Must be more CPAPs out there than I thought.
Sleep tight,
