Default Adjusting valves on a Farmall H

Hi, I am looking for guidance on how to adjust the valves on an H. What is the clearance and what is the best way to adjust them, engine running or not. Thanks.

Warren,
Farmall book says 0.017" HOT, not running. Hope this helps.

Here's a quick step by step that works for me:

1 - Loosen - but don't remove - the rocker cover.

2 - Run the engine to normal operating temperature then shut it down.

3 - Remove the rocker cover. For safety pull the center wire from the distributor or magneto (to prevent an accidental start...)

4 - Bar the crankshaft while watching the valves on the #1 (front) cylinder). Stop when BOTH valves are closed and the timing notch on the fan pulley is aligned with the pointer on the gear cover.

5 - Adjust the clearance on both valves on #1 cylinder to 0.017.

6 - Now bar the crankshaft EXACTLY 1/2 turn then set the valves on #3 cylinder.

7 - Give the crank another 1/2 turn (timing notch will again align with the pointer) and set the valves on #4.

8 - Finally give the crank another 1/2 turn and set the valves on #2.

Personally I like to repeat steps #5 thru #8 (two more full revolutions of the crank) to make sure all valves are set correctly.

9 - Finally replace the rocker box and the coil wire and you're done!

Hope this helps...
