Default Starting lesson on a Maytag 82

Well I have been putting together some videos of my engines this summer and today I thought I would start up my 26 82. I finished it last winter and never started it up. I haven't started an 82 before but figured it would be about like a 72 without a starter. Well a wile back I saw on youtube, a man start his 82 with a cordless drill and I thought, that's perfect!!
I had everything ready to start it when I finished it except for the gas. So this morning I gassed her up and grabbed my trusty 18 volt Dewalt drill with a 15/16" socket and turned it over. It busted a couple at first so I rared hard on the drill spinning and spinning, watching gas spit out of the exhaust, so I adjusted the air and the fuel, NOTHIN. I pulled the plug and cleaned it, then dried the cylinder. Then again I put the trusty drill back on the flywheel nut and like before it busted a couple at first so I rared on the drill spinning and spinning, watching gas spit out of the exhaust again so I adjust the air and fuel again.
On the 4th try as I was pulling the drill off the nut and it was decelerating to a considerably slower speed. It took right off and ran. Right then I remembered I was messing with a hit-n-miss and kept spinning it fast enough to keep the points from contacting. Wile it was running I adjusted it and finally got the video. I was surprised that it starts with just a twist of the flywheel. Here is the video.

Dennis, that was funny. I would never have thought of it being a hit & miss causing the problem. It has been many years since I started my 82. I always had a little problem with the check ball in the carb sticking. I wonder how they started them on the washing machine? Great running engine Dennis and looks super too. Thanks.

Everett, the kick starter was part of the washing machines that had the model 82's on them.
