Default Fairbanks Morse headless serial number

I'm in the process of taking my headless Z apart and taking it down to bare metal and getting it prepped for paint. It's my first engine and I am just curious about the serial number 255182. Let me know if you guys have any info. Thanks for the help again.

Anyone know of any source for a better book other than the basic instruction book for this motor. I have that one already, but I was looking for something with more diagrams, partly because I am working on this with my 5 year old daughter and I would like to show her pictures of how things go back together so she can help a little more.

Try Google patents. Often one can find the original patent drawings for a particular engine. These drawings do not have dimensions but they are scaled and cover in detail the function and design of specific components. Fairbanks Morse is a bit of a dog to track down though as they seem to have used all kinds of odd names etc. when filing their patents. Other manufactures if you know the patent date you can look. Try looking up the specific patent numbers.

Jim, I am working on a headless also and found the reprint of the owners manual a bit lacking in diagrams. My headless serial number is 255288 so very close to your unit. Looks to be a fun project. Jim.
