Default Tune up parts for Wisconsin VG4D

Hello, I have the Prestolite distributor on my VG4D. I went to shop for tune up parts and Holy Moly! - $55 for points, condenser rotor and cap! If you add the cost of the plug wires, that would be a $75 tune up! I could not imagine that it would cost that much to perform a simple tune up! What happened to the days of the $5 points? Does anyone have aftermarket part numbers for the points, condenser and rotor? Does anyone know of a cheaper source of tune up parts for this engine? Would love to know! Thanks J. Stewart

Thanks Ed & Phil,

Ed, do you recall the part numbers of the various parts that you got at carquest? There is a carquest in town, so I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Phil, can you direct me to a link to the napa catalog that has these parts? I went to the NAPA website, but I can't figure out how to search for parts for a specific small engine (it wants me to choose a car make and model)

Thanks again!

Match your parts to the picture.

One more thing!

Don’t use restore wires or spark plugs. They cause ignition problems on these air-cooled engines.

Hi

It looks like this forum wont let me post the entire link.

Click on the link. On the page in the search box marked “search catalog" enter “small engines””. Then click search. On the popup click “Shop on line”. On the next popup click “no”. Then under “search in these results” enter “Wisconsin”. On the page that comes up match your parts to the pictures.

I got new cap, rotor, points from O'Reilly's - think I spent a total of $20.
