Default New Member From Bastrop Texas. A Big Hello!

What a great Forum for antique and classic engines !

I've been a loyal Briggs & Stratton guy for close to 40 years. My personal favorites are the post 50's aluminum designs (6B-S, 8B-S,60100, and all "Kool-Bore" series, etc.).

The restoring concept only came to me a few years ago and to date I've got 4 restorations and 1 special interest (2 cycle Briggs) engine under my belt.

I hope to set up a photo album in my profile as soon as possible to share with other forum members.

Anyway, It's great to be here and I look forward to interacting with other forum members

Here are a few of my "babies".

Hey Wade-7 thanks, How's the weather up in North Texas, I hear you get a little snow every now and then.

I try to keep my restorations as close to original as possible unless I deliberately go for something different. I like to powder coat my engines (as close to original colors) for the added durability. Typically upon completion a "static" compression check, verify spark and mount on a display board. I don't like to put gas and oil in them (just for display).

I went a little crazy on a 1999 OHV 6.5 HP restoration. Powder coated "Chevy Orange", with chrome trim and a tuned header. Slightly shaved head, polished intake port, high voltage magneto and some minor carb mods. Now what to do with it ??

I like the idea of powder coating the Briggs. How did you you do this? Did you do it yourself? If so, some details would be nice.

Well if you strapped a blower on it you could start drag racing mowers

Nice work!

I break the engine down as far as it will go, pressure wash everything and take it to a local vendor that does powder coating. Shop around, because prices will vary, a reasonable price is about 125.00, in the Austin area. You just can't beat the durability of a powder coat job (and it's gas/oil proof). There's nothing more fustrating than having a great spray paint job ruined by gasoline I use Cen-Tex plating in Austin for the chrome work.

This is what the engines look like after the powder work !

Welcome to the forum Briggs Man. I live in Fla now but was stationed in San Marcos in the 50's and dated a girl in Prairie lee. Do they still have the WaterMellon Thump in Lulling?
