Default The Italian Romei's steam portable engine

Hi to all,
here you have an interesting italian portable engine. It is the smallest and one of the rarest steam portable engine built in Italy. It was built by the italian firm "Fratelli Romei di Giovanni Romei" of Siena (Tuscany). It was designed to be used in hilly zones or where it was difficult to bring the standard four wheels portable engines.
This unit was built in 1912 and the serial number is 83. Hope to have time to steam it in a few weeks!!!

All the best

Davide

Very nice. I do not see a firebox door. How do you feed it?

Hi Jeff,
the Romei has a return flue boiler. Here you have some photos of the firebox door and the smoke box door.

Here you have a vintage photo of a Romei Engine threshing clover. I found this photo in the R.E.D.A.'s archives in Florence.

Hi Mike!
It will not be easy to find an engine like this over here! I searched for more than three years before I found this one!

All the best

Hi to all,
Beth, I will try to stick it in my luggage! I will have to remove the stack....

Bernie, I'm also looking for a Romei catalogue and I think I have found one! When I have it in my hands I can make you a nice copy and I will send it to you!

All the best

Davide,

I'm sure we could craft a smoke stack for it if you bring it!

Hope to see you BOTH in June...we can sneak it into the Gaar Scott line up!!

Thanks
Beth

That is one neat little engine.

I like the handwheel operated brake on it.... Probably easier to adjust for a light drag going down hill with horses than a lever operated brake would be.

Thanks for shoring the pictures & info on it.

ooops typo... thanks for shAring the pics, not shOring them...

Nice! The way a boiler should be built, no stay bolts or crown sheets and less surface area to waste heat.

Finally spring arrived and I had some time to fire up the small Romei engine.
I don't know how many of this steam italian portable engines are still alive but mine is defintely in full working condition!

It will be displayed soon for threshing in summer tractor shows here in Italy.

Hope you like it!
