I don't have the answeres to your question, but as a side note I've been doing a little testing with GM wasted spark coil packs. This looks like it could turn out to be a viable option as they are very easy to come buy and cheep. Write up to fallow.

In the service manual that you downloaded from the link by Max, look in section 6, page 6-12. This is very easy to follow for testing the coil.

The GM waste spark coil packs have a very low primary resistance. The one I have measured about .3 ohms. This will be pretty hard on a set of points. You might want to try using TWO ignition resisters. I DO NOT know if this will work. I have a 4.0 CCK that I am going to try to do a electronic ignition system on using two dowel pins in the flywheel, a proximity detector, a 4 pin GM HEI module, and one of the GM waste fire coils BUT I have not gotten the important aroundtoit part.

That's exactly where I'm at right now. I get about 150 straight hours on a set of points before they are BBQd. I want to try one off of a saturn 1.9 but they are a bit smaller and ill need to mod my rig a bit.
