Default John Deere 999 Corn Planter - How to get rubber on steel wheels?

So I'm just finishing up a project of mine... it's my grandfathers old 999 John Deere 2 Row Corn Planter. What my big dellima is now... what do most folks do to attach rubber to the steel wheels so I don't completely mess up my fresh paint job? I really don't want to drill holes into the steel obviously... so what do most folks do?

What I have done on tractors and implements is use rubber belting and contact cement. Find the type that is flammable. The old type. The newer cement does not hold as good as the old type.

I have a tractor and a mini hay press and have run them on pavement for the past 10 years and no problems.

This stuff is not very cheap, but it would probably give you nicest look. Since only the outside edge of the wheel touches the ground, unless you are in soft ground i.e. planting, but since you are consindering putting rubber on I assume you have not desire for it to be used for more than show, you would only really need to cover the outter most part of the wheel. Have never used it on an application like this but assume it would work pretty well.

Holy cats... you aren't kidding. $160.00! Oh well. We'll just have to keep it in the back on my mind for now! Thanks Covert!

I did exactly this... I was able to order a sample... and then found a distributor. This stuff looks awesome. I'll post pictures as soon as I can!
