Default Onan stop solenoid 307-2546-00 used on DKD, MDKD and others

There seems to be a lot of mystery on how to install and adjust the fuel shut down solenoid.
The pull and hold coils seem to create a problem

woodward
model 1502
part number 307-2546-00
12 vdc

lay it on the table and connect a meter to the pos and neg terminals and ohm them out

notice the low ohms of the pull coil

now pull in the plunger

see the high ohms of the holding coil

now notice if it is not ALL the way in the internal switch will not change from the pull to the holding coil

Now lets mount the solenoid

now lets move the linkage notice it is at the end of its travel but notice it does not travel all the way into the solenoid so the internal switch has not been activated

now we will adjust the linkage by turning out the connection point where the ball connects to the lever
see how the solenoid bottoms out and the internal switch changes from the pull to the holding coil

now check to make sure the lever will hit the stop when fully extended

make sure the wire connections are good and tight and start the genset.

The other thing I do that no one else does it see the 2 wires getting a ground from the mounting screws. I use so emory cloth or small grinder and remove the paint from the screw holes and face of the mounting bracket for a good connection.

I ordered a new solenoid, but it does not have the AUX terminal. I installed as directed and now the generator starts when I push start and connect the wire that was on the AUX of the old solenoid to the "NEG" of the new solenoid. I tried holding it to the terminal and it sounded like the starter automatically kicked off. I checked the wiring diagrams and diagnostics in the manual and it appears that this wire can go to the hold coil (or "NEG" terminal) because the start solenoid kicks off via another circuit once the AC voltage goes up. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone installed a 2-terminal instead of a 3 terminal solenoid? It was $150 cheaper, but advertised as a direct replacement. The part number of the original is the same as the subject thread, the new one was 1504-12A6 "replaces 307-2546". I'm gonna leave the wire disconnected and manually start it up until I hear back. Thanks!

For a 3 terminal solenoid, the (+) and (AUX) have a +12Vdc source controlled by your generator and the (GND) is the negative of the battery. You should buy a 3 terminal solenoid like the 1502-12d6u1b2s1a (i just buy one to my Onan generator), but you can still use the one with two terminals.

These solenoids have to coils inside: a high current pull coil and a low current retention coil. The two terminal types have a internal switch that control the power source for each coil. The 3 terminal types use the (AUX) terminal to power the retention coil (from a external switch).

Connect the ground (GND) terminal and the other two cables to the (+) terminal. I don’t think there is any problem with the current on the AUX cable, since today is very hard to find a 3 terminal solenoid. Most come with the internal switch.

I find my in “aerial equipment parts”, but i have two wait two weeks to get it.
