Default fairbanks hit and miss

I recently obtained a running Fairbanks and Morris 1 & 1/2 horse dishpan hit & miss engine. It runs good but needs some minor cosmetic items and has been painted blue. Since this will be my first restoration project, I could use a some advice on the following.

1. I would like to know where I could find the model number on this engine so that I can find the year of production?

2. Is there any books that would have colored pictures of this engine correctly restored?

Default Re: fairbanks hit and miss

The company usually stamped the serial on a boss on the water jacket. If this is not present then look on the end of the crankshaft (right/governor) side. Once you have determined the serial number there are several web sites that post the serial number list by month and year. Good luck.
