Hello Max, I have found your link to be very helpful in my situation as well. My Onan Commercial 4500 4.5 BGDFB30502M came on a bucket truck bed I bought (Telsta A 28 D) to fix up and do electrical work. I bought it at a junk yard, unfortunately someone stole the control board, carb, fuel pump, VR1,VR2 and starter off the generator before I got. ( the theives knew how much this stuff is worth) I have another older Onan BGD 4.5 that I am robbing parts to fix the one on my truck. However I have found the wiring harness plugs are different. I am in the process of making an adaptor to use the 300-3763 board. I have no clue what board my generator had before I got it. The harness plugs are orange if that helps. I can't afford to sink a lot of money in a new board at this time and wanted to know if this is possible before I proceed. Please don't hold anything back as I am new to this type of gen and I am just winging it one wire at a time. Any and ALL advise would be appreciated. Thank and God bless you

You need the advice of the “Smart Guys”. Some units you can wire with out the control board, but I don’t think you can get around the VR1 & VR2, both of which are likely upwards of $100 at flight systems. Does your older BG run? Could you swap it out for the one in the truck? If you are not in a hurry, you can often find running 4.0 – 6.5 units in the $200 -$400 range, may be cheaper in the long run.

I have the VR1 and VR2 installed, the VR1 has the capacitor and a 12 pin connector. If I had it to do over I would have swap them out. I have already installed and wired up everything except the wiring harnesses because they don't match. If you could give me the wiring diagram for my gen. s/n F990932139. The diagrams I downloaded are good but some of the numbers are unreadable. Thank you for all you help, God bless

ps, I have the control board from my old BG, it had a different 12 pin connector than my newer BG.

If I am reading correctly, page 99 of manual #965-0500 should be the wiring diagram for your unit. The down load manual from Cummins is clear & easy to read if enlarged on screen. Hopefuly someone that "knows" will be along & help you out.

Thanks Max, that's it. I needed the print I could see the numbers and letters. I can wire it up with this, I just hope it works correctly and I don't miss something. I have to relocate some wires that went to the starter solenoid ( my old starter doesn't have a solenoid attached to it ) but I can work around this. I mounted the solenoid behind the control board like it was in my older BG. I'm not going to try it until I get more info, don't want to cause any damage. Thanks again Max and God bless
