Default Wards Lakeside mower

Picked this up at a sale. http://www.flickr.com/photos/17087539@N07/ Looks like its missing a wheel at the front? Cleaned and set the points and got it running by squirting some fuel in the carb. I need to clean the tank and carb out before I can start mowing with it. Briggs model# 81906 Type# 945799 Serial# 6110180. Mower #25TBK8146A, anyone know the year?

Probably had a pair of smaller wheels in front to keep it from pitching forward. Looks like there used to be a matching axle on the other side, but the frame got broken and a patch welded on.
Nice 'Operator Friendly' design having the exhaust blowing right back at you!

I of course noticed the patch but didnt realize that there would have been another wheel mounted there. I still think Im doing ok with only $5 into the mower. Interesting way of starting it with the spring wind hand crank and release.

We had a couple of those windups on a few of the briggs in the 60s they were ok if the engine would start easy. I think the engine on that old Wards is quite a bit newer than the rest of the unit, porbably by 10 years? F.J.W.

I have one of those mowers, it has a Clinton engine that at least "looks" to be original to it. The carb on mine is shot.
As already posted it does have 2 small wheels in front. Its really a nice little mower to use when its running.

I found a few pics of this type mower online and they appeared to have a Clinton 2 stroke for moto-va-shun. So it may be safe to say that it may not have its original engine, would probably still be safe to say that it may draw some looks from the neighbors when I mow with it.
