Default welding a cracked piston

I managed to crack the face of the piston on my 1 1/2 H.P. McCormick M while removing it. My question is would it be save to "V" out the crack and weld it up, then grind it down smooth without the worry of something breaking later on? I dont see why it would'nt work but would the heat of welding effect the piston any?

Default Re: welding a cracked piston

Tanner, I would recommend you get a different piston. There should be plenty of them available. The piston could come apart when running and would certainly cause damage to the bore or even more. My 3 cents (inflation) worth. Can probably find one in one of Harry's advertiser.
