Default no voltage on my lifan 3500 gen set

Hi; Iam a newby to this forum. I lost voltage when wiring for shut down of generator. I was using a float switch in my water tower. The switch is open in the float switch when water tank is to be filled. When it is filled. Float switch is closed. The gen set is electric start. So I thought I could take hot leed from starter selinoid, run it through my float switch wires and tee into wire leading to bottom of carb fuel shutoff. It didn't work. However, I lost ac and dc voltage. Thought it was an avr. Put a new one on. Still no voltage. I think it is a diode. Can anybody out their help me. I have no wire schematic.
