Default Wisconsin VH4D flywheel alternator

I have a VH4D with a 10 amp alternator. The stator is open circuit and both rectifier and regulator test bad. Will a 30 amp stator physically fit inside the flywheel? I realize that I won't get 30 amps of power but that isn't important. I can get the 30 amp stator and regulator units quite a bit cheaper than the 10 amp parts.

If you have the room in your application, you may want to find an external accessory drive with a pulley, and use a conventional automotive alternator. The early flywheel alternators were not that reliable and parts were very expensive.

Thanks. We concur that the flywheel alternator is problematic. We don't have room to mount anything off the accessory drive but we're looking at driving one off the pto end.

Go with an external mount if at all possible, ---as stated more cost effective plus reliable! thanks; sonny

I have a mid eighties vermeer stump grinder with the alternator issues. haven't tested the rectifier or regulator yet, I'm not gettin any juice from the stator anyway.

Thinking about installing the whole kit, any idea what that will cost me? Or the best source?
