Here is a few pics of this Myers pump its a self oiling Bulldozer pump . the number on front of housing is 8068 or 3068 hard to tell 3 from a 8 on casting. anyone know year and what direction flywheel should turn to puck up oil ? also what type oil does it use? can you use 80/90 gear oil ? How full do you fill gear housing.

You want to run this pump so the crank is turning from the bottom of the sump to the front of the pump, it will run just fine and pump water in the other direction but it will have oil coming out at the lid seam. For the oil, this comes out of the maintenance manual " Use No. 30 S.A.E. automobile engine oil in the summer or for warm locations. For cold locations use No. 20 S.A.E. Always use good clean new oil."

Ronny....
The illustrations below from a 1935 Myers catalog might answer some of your questions about the lubrication. They say the gears can run either direction and it looks like oil can get up to where it needs to be to get to the cross head no matter what. Also shown is what I suspect they recommend as the proper oil level. Hope this helps, Larry |

Well hooked it up to static source of water no need to prime it doesn't pump. was hoping that I wouldn't have to tear into it .Well I'm on vacation painting my house will let it sit for a while I just was spinning flywheel with my fingers it seemed to turn too easy before I really tried to see if it pumped.

Well let pump set all day with water hooked to it I went over turned flywheel with my finger and some water and sucking sound came from intake pop it valve caps.Previous owner made new cap gaskets out of red rubber. There all deteriorated and were leaking air. Going to make new ones out of gasket material and try it. inside intake chamber real clean looks like it was rebuilt by previous owner. The previous owner has since passed away. I know he's watching me as I work on this. I knew him and it make owning this pump special . It's never going to be for sale by me !!

I got some leathers and seals from an Ace Hardware. They had a pump department and had just what I needed.

Well fooled with pump all afternoon it won't pump rubber popit valves look real good didn't tear it apart . Just took caps off that gains access to the valves. Opened top of pump this gains access to discharge valve they look good. I believe leather on piston is bad. I know Myers does not have parts for this. Not sure how to change it if i had one . I'm waiting on Myers to try and find the year and model. Not sure about anything on this pump. I go through this with all these old pumps.

Boy like pulling hens teeth for people with info on these pumps ! i went to search found some stuff but it's 5 or 6 years old. Odd not a lot of interest on these pumps. I've never changed the leathers on one of these pump restorations. I've done 4 was lucky they all pumped with out getting into the piston with the leather on it.
Well I'm going to try and find where I can get a leather I know Myers won't have one they don't have any parts for these pumps anymore. Ronny |

Lee Pederson who is a sponsor has a reprint of the Myers Bulldozer catalog. I got my Ace Hardware leathers some time ago and that store is closed.
I'd think any farm supply store would have general pump parts. Does this pump have to be primed by pouring some water into the top of the cylinder? |

John I think your supposed to prime it but square headed plug in top of pump where you prime it is all rusted in you would never get it out. I hook it to a 1/2 whisky barrel no need to prime .I also took front apart today leather was disintegrated and locking nuts rusted round but got em out. It's what they call a 3x4 3 inch bore 4 inch stroke . Found a fella in Ohio who has parts for it. still would like to know when it was made. No numbers on this thing that mean anything.

Here's a picture from a 1932 Myers Pump catalog, showing the Bulldozer pumps. First built in 1916. I also have 1941 Myers catalog and it still shows the same pump. Probably made into the 50's, you really can't pinpoint a certain mgf. date on Myers pumps.

Thanks Robert i know it' tough to pinpoint year built . Seems kind of dumb for any company not to put date numbers on any product they manufacture.
Ronny ---------- Post added at 09:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:54 PM ---------- Well opened up front of pump had to force a socket on cap bolts they were kinda messed up. Got into where leather is these bolts on brass plunger shaft all corroded but i still cant believe I got all 3 of them off. Leather was all disintegrated . little scoring in brass sleeve was going to use glaze busting hone but better leave well enough alone. There is better nuts made today stainless steel self locking ect. can I use a better nuts on this shaft would like to use stainless will this react with brass. Why didn't they use brass nuts on the brass shaft. Ronny |
