Default New Guy on the Block

Good Morning or Afternoon Everyone!

My Name is Kelly and I am new to this forum, so please be patient with me as I am learning my way around.

A little bit about me;

I am the Gasket Coordinator for the HV, Agricultural and Medium Duty lines for Mahle Clevite Inc, or more specifically the Victor Reinz Gasket Family. So essentially, if you have a question then please do not hesitate to ask away!

In my free time I enjoy tractor shows, engine rebuilding, racing, classic cars, and a little bit of cooking every now and then.

Thank you for having me here, and have a great day everyone!

I believe you'll get a number of questions about gaskets.

Welcome to the Stak!

Take care - Elden

Welcome! Usually newcommers ask questions, they don't answer questions but since you asked. I have asked many suppliers of gaskets for a suitable replacement for the asbestos gaskets used for decades on heads and ignitors for these old engines. I either get no reply or am told you must use a metal reinforced gasket. Can you recommend a good replacement material for the asbestos gaskets without metal reinforcing? The metal is hard on the gasket cutters and punches. A part number would be an added bonus. Any assistance is appreciated.

Thank you for the welcome Jeff and Elden!

To answer your question Jeff, as far as I know there is not a good replacement for a non-asbestos gasket without a steel backing, as the steel adds extra support for the sealing of the gasket. Especially when it comes to areas like the exhaust and Cylinder Head Gaskets.
