Anyone have any info on a Goulds #3 hydraulic ram pump? Bought a pile of junk at an auction just to get it. Must have been the only one there who realized what it was, because I got the whole pile for $15.

Hi .......... I have a add from the Canadian Beatty Co. with a hydraulic ram very similar to the Gould ram, and also a article on rams published in the Popular Mechanics Magazine from years ago.

I'll have to ask dad, he collects rams, and I know he was looking for Goulds for awhile.

Tom G. --the day after you posted about your new water ram, I was setting up at a Conn. flea market to sell a bunch of "stuff". While I was busy setting up, I heard a buyer ask the seller across the aisle from me --"How much for the water ram?" I had been so busy I had not had time to check out any of the other vendors. I then heard the vendor say "well, I'm asking $35". By now, I couldn't stay away and walked right over, hoping the buyer would walk away. No such luck, the buyer offered $30 and walked away with a #3 Goulds water ram, complete, without even any rust on it! If I had been thinking that early in the morning, I would have offered the new owner the chance to triple his money.
Oh well, maybe that's why I'm cranky in Rifton. |

Tom G and Roger E ---
I was looking for something else and saw some information on Goulds water rams in, of all places, a 1920 Canadian Fairbanks Morse Catalog. Also I have some 1916 Goulds catalog inserts with some information on their mud pumps. Since the print is very small the scanned images are too large to post here so I put them on my web site. See: http://www.oldengine.org/members/levans/gouldspumps/ The attached pictures are just to show the type of information. Regards, Larry Evans |

Any idea where Goulds hydraulic ram pumps were made? I purchased today a R McDougall Co #3 hydraulic ram which was made in Cambridge (Galt), Ontario. I hate to admit but I paid $400 for it at a farm auction. The are others out there with no manufacturers name on the product. I understand these rams were made in sizes from 1 to 6 with #1 being the smallest.
