Hey man.

Oh ya! We recently acquired an Onan Electric Plant ($500 + 200 shipping).

Model #: 5CCK-1R/131D
Serial #: 49B607087
Fuel: L.P.G.
Gen. Data: 5CCK1C1A

She came on a pallet Friday afternoon...looks like it was ripped from it's former home—sliced hose, dangling wires. The Cummins fellow that serviced it last May told me I need a Gas Pancake Regulator Kit, and a Gas Solenoid Valve.

The Cummins parts fellow told me the onan parts #s are:

solenoid: 307-2930 ($134.55)
regulator kit: 148-0521 ($242.40)

What parts do you recommend?

Also, what oil do I use in the crankcase? I've read "low ash" for gaseous fuels. What weight, sae, etc. And, do I feed this baby LP liquid or vapor?

What else do you recommend to get'er running?

Be blessed.

Jay Scott.

And...

First, do not buy your needed LP parts from Onan. You can find the same things you need from a LP Parts supplier. I would use a Garretson Model KN Demand Regulator which is likely what is in the regulator kit. I do not know what else might be included but you can get a KN for about $80.00. I use Molden Supply 1-800-221-8467 They will also have the solenoid valve. Ask for Rob.

'Nuckles,

US Carburetion has lower prices on LP parts than any other place I've found. They have everything you need.

For example; the KN Demand Regulator at US is less than $50.00.

is that the unit from PA.?
Nice low hour genny run on propane.
As the others have said, propane components are available from your local supplier or the sources listed at a much better price. They are not onan specific. I get the Kn demand regulator for $58.00 here from my gas technician that does my installs.

heres your pancake regulator.. bottom left, $39.99 call them to order it..http://www.pngtechnologies.com/Generic_Impco.html. You dont really need a solinode unless the generator is remote start up, i would just put a gas ball valve before the demand regulator so when its not in use you can kill the fuel supply so theres zero leakage. Any kind of 30wt oil is fine. Is that a crack in the exhaust manifold?

Buy your parts from a gas company. Much cheaper than Onan. You will need a pound to ounces regulator, shut off solenoid and the KN demand regulator.

Nice unit. I just put a gas version of that same one back in service. Been sitting for 25 year.

I would install a elec. solenoid in the gas line, unless it will NEVER be run without someone standing beside it to shut the gas supply off if the engine quits. The solenoid is a small price to pay for safety, which when dealing with LP gas you can never have too much of.

I said the KN cost about $80 because it had been sometime since I have bought one. I was allowing for a possible price increase. On the fuel lock, there are also ones that work with a vacuum signal there for they do not require electrical power to operate.

There were different specs for Pa. gensets. I have them for my JB series parts books and it includes a bunch of different components. I would imagine the CCK series has them also.
I'd guess the cracked manifold happened during shipping by someone banging the exhaust stub. I don't think it had that tilt in the e-bay pics.

Here it is on eBay http://ebay.com/itm/230703946460

I talked with the fellow we got it from and he said he has the solenoid and regulator and is sending them out today. : )

The cracked manifold is not a big problem. If it can't be repaired, there are replacement exhaust flange adapters available. For example:

You mentioned a remote? What information do you need?

Does he also have the rubber vibration pads that go under the feet?

I would use a NEW regulator. Cheap insurance to prevent someone who is new to onans from having to trubble shoot a leaking, dry, not working right regulator.

Cool. I found this too. http://ebay.com/itm/140340450979

Looks like it fits. First I intend to look for someone to weld the old one. Obviously cracked at the flange, but also a small crack where the right side exhaust pipe joins the manifold joint. Fellow I got if from said they ran it at the auction and it was not loud.

Regarding remote...haven't thought that far ahead. Now that you mention it I expect a schematic of the control box will help once I get there.

I think the service manual for your set, CCK spec D, is 927-0500, and the parts manual is 927-0300. Unfortunately, I do not have those, but if you post an email address, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to send you a copy.

I think onanparts, a member here has a couple new and maybe a used CCK manifold on his website for sale and there a fellow out in Indiana that advertises on e-bay that had some NOS manifolds and lots of other NOS parts.
he goes by: mikes garage sale on e-bay, just search for onan parts there.
