I have gone to EBAY and tried to find where old engine stuff is - with no luck! Can somebody direct me to the right category? You could look for a hundred years and not find it!
Thanx |

I don't think there IS any such category, A lot of stuff is under antique science instruments, and farm equipment but there is stuff is hidden everywhere else as well. So pretty often you will end up playing with the SEARCH feature. This will look through all the listings and "steam whistle" is easy, but youu will get mis listed safety valves as well, so wait for the picture! You also will want to check "steam whistles" (Plural) the search engine is a TOM (totally obedient moron) and will only bring you the things that matched exactly what you asked for!!!! "steam engine" will bring you about 300 listings including toy trains. But will miss stuff listed as "steam roller" or "traction engine" You can try "gas engine" but most of that is R/C model airplane stuff. "Hit 'n Miss" is kinda tricky because you have to match their spelling, and you will get some totally unrelated stuff with those words in any order. "Lubricator(s)", "oiler(s)" ,5 different spellings of magneto...well, you get the idea! Finding the stuff is only a quarter of the challenge. Finding something that some yahoo with more money than brains hasn't (and won't), and then actually then having the damned thing meet reserve is the rest!!! Good Luck and Happy Hunting!!!!

Perhaps I'm the oddball in the group; but I never bother with eBay categories. I always do my eBay searching from their main search page:
http://pages.ebay.com/search/items/search.html I'll type in things such as "miss engine" (without the quotes) and then click on "Search." eBay will give a list of all mentions of things containing those two words. There are dozens of ways of searching, but "antique engine" is another couple of good search words. More are "engine mag*" which will give you all mentions of engine magnetos, magazines, etc. Use your imagination. Happy hunting. Orrin |

Just type in Gas Engine in the search you will have to weed threw some model airplane engines and other junk but there are hundreds of engines and parts. Also try Magneto, Gas Engines, Gasoline Engine .Just try everything and you will find more than you can look at in an evening. Good Luck Bruce
